Beyonce's Night Out: Breaking Down Her 'Tasteful' Look

Fashion expert weighs in on B's post-baby style during a President Obama fundraiser.
By Jocelyn Vena

All the single ladies: Put your hands up and show Beyoncé some love for looking so smoking hot just 10 weeks after giving birth to her baby girl, Blue Ivy.

After multiple sightings of the star out and about in NYC since she first emerged at a Jay-Z's post-Carnegie Hall party, the singer got all dolled up to hang out with first lady Michelle Obama in Manhattan on Monday night.

The first lady of hip-hop and the actual first lady gathered at the Greenwich Hotel for a fundraising event for President Obama. Along with raising some dough, Beyoncé also raised eyebrows, thanks to her slamming post-baby body. Decked out in a body-hugging navy dress by Victoria Beckham, B rocked sky-high heels, dazzling bling (including a diamond-encrusted eagle) and her hair pulled back in a simple ponytail. So what was Beyoncé doing right in terms of styling herself as a new mom?

"When you think of all the things women dislike about themselves, the majority don't like their upper arms and also have skirt-length issues, so she's addressed both of these. It's an interesting choice because it's snug, not tight," celebrity stylist Robert Verdi told MTV News about B's post-baby style. "There's a distinction. It's body-flattering, for sure.

"It's also a very tasteful length: 2 inches above the knee. It's also a very conservative color, and it's very covered, but it still remains very sexy," he continued about the look. "You don't see all the bumps that women have post-pregnancy. ... Again, the distinction is it's body-conscious without revealing every lump and bump. Tight ain't right, but this ain't tight. This is body-skimming."

With Beyoncé heading back into the spotlight more and more, including a set of shows planned for Memorial Day weekend, does Verdi think Queen B will reassess her stage style now that she's a mom?

"She's really young, and ... her equity is in her sex appeal, so you can't dismiss that," Verdi said. "She's not going to cover up. I think you've seen a similar evolution with Madonna, where fashion is sexy but is more intellectual. It's not as in-your-face. I think you're going to see the same thing with her. You evolve, but I don't think you stop being an attractive woman because you've had a child."

What do you think of B's post-baby style? Let us know in the comments!

Beyonce And Jay-Z Unveil First Blue Ivy Carter Photos

'We welcome you to share in our joy,' reads a note posted with the five photos, signed by 'the Carter family.'

And now we've seen her.

On Friday (February 10), Jay-Z posted the first photos of his and Beyoncé's daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, on his Life + Times website.

The rapper and his superstar wife are seen in the photos holding the newborn in a series of five photos. In the first large photo, we see the baby swathed in a polka-dot wrap sleeping. The patent is intended to prevent the use of their daughter's name by non-related parties. The application was filed by Beyoncé's company, BGK Trademark Holdings, and is currently pending. The Washington Post reported that it will likely get approved, considering that parents are legally authorized to trademark the names of minor children.

Earlier this week, Beyoncé revealed her post-pregnancy body, and she's back in fighting shape only a month after the birth of her baby girl. B was photographed twice this week, including at the first night of Jay-Z's two-night charity stint at Carnegie Hall.

What do you think of the first Blue Ivy photos? Dimmu Borgir Release Live DVD; Plus Led Zeppelin, Brujeria, & More News That Rules, In Metal File

'It shows the intense live side of the band, as opposed to the perfection and the cleanness of how we sound on our albums,' guitarist says.

According to a Reuters report, those gaudy figures (which top 15 million worldwide) make the British songbird the first artist to cross the 5 million mark in one year since Usher did it with his fourth studio album, Confessions, which sold 7.9 million units more than seven years ago.

And to think she did it by releasing just two mega singles, "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You," and barely touring North America due to recurring vocal issues.

There have been other big hits along the way to Adele's mark, including Eminem selling more than 3.4 million copies of his comeback Recovery album last year and Taylor Swift taking the honors in 2009 with Fearless, which sold 3.2 million copies. But none have come as close to Usher's mark in the interim.

There doesn't seem to be any chance Adele will be surpassed by the end of the year: The closest contenders are Lady Gaga's Born This Way (2.08 million) and Michael Bublé's Christmas (2.4 million). The other good news is that overall music sales are expected to be up slightly (3 percent) by the end of this year, marking the first time that's happened since 2004.

Ke$ha Drops Lil Wayne, T.I., Wiz Khalifa 'Sleazy' Remix

The song gets a bit dirtier and introspective thanks to verses from the guys that play up the track's bumping beat.

Wiz kicks it off, rapping about designer clothes and his lady love, Amber Rose. "OK, I'm young and I'm tatted/ I get them bucks like an addict/ Rocking this Christian Dior/ I spend so much on my fabric/ I got a wifey at home/ And what she wants she can have it," he spits before going on about chilling on the beach, being rich and his prowess in the bedroom.

Sitting in between Wiz and Tip is Andre's recycled verse, before T.I. gets his shot and gets sexy, asking Ke$ha, "Do you know what to do with me?" before he launches into a verse all about how good he is to the ladies. "Bad bitches know me/ So don't bother introducing me/ They want me more than diamonds," he brags before explaining that it has a lot to do with his impressive anatomy.

Wayne closes it out, adding his own signature flair. "We be on that sh-- that no one be on/ That's what we on/ Smoke that neon, Kings of Leon/ Dynamite, Napoleon/ Got some skinnies and a tee on/ And some Vans," he rhymes about his famous sense of Weezy-fied style before the song circles back to the funky chorus, where Ke$ha declares that she doesn't "need you or your brand-new Benz/ Or your bougie friends/ I don't need love lookin' like diamonds/ Lookin' like diamonds."

If any of K's fans or critics were wondering if she has the swagger to chill with the guys, she displayed some of her sass when she tweeted about the remix. "Question ANIMALS ... who can say they got with Lil Wayne, T.I., Andre 3000 and Wiz Khalifa on a f---ing hot track??" she asked. "ill give u one clue ... Lady Gaga's ARTPOP: A History Of Album Title Oddities

From unpronounceable symbols to parentheses, Gaga's ALL-CAPS album title joins the ranks of the all-time weirdest.
By James Montgomery

Over the weekend, Lady Gaga struck a blow against copy editors everywhere when she announced that the title of her new album, ARTPOP, must always be written in ALL CAPS, because "it's all in the details."

And while we're not trying to downplay said details, we'd be like to point out that Gaga isn't exactly the first artist to demand orthographical satisfaction. Shoot, she's not even the first to go ALL CAPS: Earlier this year, Linkin Park did the same thing with their LIVING THINGS album, only they one-upped Gaga by also requesting that all songs on the album also be written in all caps, bravely eschewing the lowercase for reasons apparent only to them.

In fact, the history of popular music is packed with affronts to punctuation — from early pioneers like the Beatles' "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" and James Brown's "Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine" to more recent torchbearers like Panic! at the Disco and Godspeed You! Black Emperor — though rarely have artists had the audacity to extend that mistreatment to the album title itself.

Of course, there are those who have bravely dared to throw logic (and roughly 300 years of letter-case tradition) out the window when it came time to name their new albums. So in honor of Gaga's ARTPOP demands, here's a look back at some of the greatest — and by that, we mean most nonsensical — album titles in history.

Led Zeppelin's IV: At the peak of their powers — both artistically and, it would seem, mystically — Zeppelin decided they didn't need to title their fourth album. Instead, they printed four hand-drawn symbols (each representing a band member) on its inner sleeve. The move has subsequently enthralled generations of bong-glazed dorm inhabitants and only added to the album's mystique. In the 40 years since it was released, the record has come to be known as IV, Runes, Zoso (after Jimmy Page's symbol) and "the one with 'Stairway to Heaven' on it."

Prince's Love Symbol album: Released in the lead-up to the Purple One's "symbol" phase — when he changed his stage name to an unpronounceable hieroglyph that incorporated the symbols for both male and female — it understandably infuriated his label, Warner Bros., which was precisely what Prince intended. (Note to labels: Do not release greatest-hits packages without Prince's approval.) After the album didn't sell (he blamed this on Warner), Prince would eventually begin appearing in public with the phrase "Slave" written on his face. Shocking, to be sure, but at least you could pronounce it.

Ministry's Psalm 69: Its actual title is a collection of Greek symbols (that translate to "head") and the number "69" in Greek numerals. Not only that, but Ministry named their 1992 album in honor of occultist Aleister Crowley's "The Book of Lies," which was first published as "Which is also Falsely Called BREAKS. The Wanderings or Falsifications of the One Thought of Frater Perduarbo, which Thought is itself Untrue. Liber CCCXXXIII [Book 333]." And that would have been a ridiculous name for an album.

Sigur Ros' ( ): The Icelandic art-rockers really outdid themselves on their third album, and we're not just talking about the decision to sing all the songs in a made-up language called "Hopelandic." Technically, ( ) has no actual title. Rather, the brackets are meant to represent its two halves or give the listener the opportunity to determine the title themselves. Oh, and officially, all of the tracks on the album are untitled too. Your move, Gaga.

Coldplay's X&Y: Sure, it's got a traditional title. But ever the artistes, Coldplay decided to print the name of their 2005 album in the Baudot code, an early forerunner of the Morse code that relied on a series of 1's and 0's to convey messages. Needless to say, the logic behind the decision was about as difficult to crack as the code itself.

M.I.A. /\/\ /\ Y /\: Yes, we know that technically, M.I.A.'s 2010 album is called Maya (she named it after herself, following in the tradition of her first two albums, which were named in honor of her mother and father), but let the record state that when she officially unveiled the title, she did so in tricky typographical fashion. No wonder Diplo hated it so much.

Liars' WIXIW: It's pronounced "Wish You," FYI. And for a band like Liars, who have spent their career giving albums titles like They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top and They Were Wrong, So We Drowned, we'd like to think it's actually an improvement.

Sound off on the latest album title trend in the comments, and FEEL FREE TO DO IT IN ALL-CAPS!

Lady Gaga Shoots Back at PETA After 'Turncoat' Accusation

Mother Monster takes to Twitter after being rebuked by PETA for wearing fur coats.
By Jocelyn Vena

Lady Gaga has come under fire after being photographed in various fur jackets over the past few weeks. Animal rights organization PETA is taking issue with the Mother Monster and her furry fashion choices.

In a statement released on PETA's website, VP Dan Mathews recalls a statement she gave to Ellen DeGeneres in 2010 after she wore the infamous meat dress to the VMAs that year. And from there he takes aim at the star for being what he calls "Judas" to animal rights activists everywhere.

For those press and such who are writing about whether or not my fur is actually real, littlemonsters.com/text/50296814a...
— Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) August 13, 2012

"Many of your gay fans, I among them, have long admired what you told Ellen: 'I hate fur and I don't wear fur.' I included a link because these recent photos of you in fox and rabbit and with a wolf carcass make it appear that you have amnesia," he wrote. "What happened? Are your stylists telling you that it's fake, or are you a turncoat? Many gays are animal advocates because we recognize that the same arrogance and indifference that some have toward animal suffering has at times been directed toward us personally because of our orientation.

"PETA has long participated in Pride events around the country, and just last week, we helped lead protests against Chick-fil-A. But by wearing those dumb furs in a heat wave, you're making yourself a target just like the mindless Kim Kardashian," he said, comparing her to the reality starlet who was flour-bombed by a PETA supporter earlier this year. "As we plan our fall campaigns, please tell us whether what you gracefully told Ellen was heartfelt or just a pose."

He then asked for a response from her, but he didn't have to wait too long to get it. Gaga kept her response short, sweet and tongue-in-cheek. "For those press and such who are writing about whether or not my fur is actually real, please don't forget to credit the designer HERMES. Thank You! LOVE, gaga," she wrote late Monday.

Was Lady Gaga's response appropriate? Justin Bieber Channels Justin Timberlake On 'Boyfriend'

Lead Believe single dropped at midnight on Monday.
By Jocelyn Vena

Tween dream swagger is all over Justin Bieber's lead Believe single, "Boyfriend." Taking several cues from Justin Timberlake's early post-'NSYNC work, the track amps up Bieber's credibility as a teen idol and remixes it with the type of production work longtime pop music fans can appreciate.

Lyrically, it sounds a bit silly at times (like when Bieber proposes he and his girl eat fondue by the fire), but Bieber's delivery of the lines proves that at 18, he's willing to take the steps to move forward in the world of pop. Sometimes it seems a little too similar to the way the other Justin delivers lines, but "Boyfriend," co-produced and co-written by Mike Posner, is light-years beyond the sugary sweet "Baby."

The song opens pretty sparsely, with just a thumping beat, a "woo" noise and Bieber's sing-songy rap, before a guitar comes in as Bieber makes his plea to win a girl over. The chorus will have girls dancing around thanks to its bumping beat and chugging R&B-influenced instrumentation. He sings, "I could be a gentleman/ Everything you want/ If I was your boyfriend/ I'd never let you go/ I'd never let you go," before rapping, "Tell me what you like."

Bieber uses some form of the word "swag" no fewer than four times on the track, including the somewhat perplexing line, "Swag, swag, swag on you." But regardless of what Bieber detractors might have to say, his Beliebers, who have aged right along with their idol, will appreciate his more grown-up sound on the record.

The song officially dropped at midnight on Monday. Believe will be released later this year. As for the video, his manager, Scooter Braun, tweeted that it's already in the works.

Do you like the more grown-up Bieber on "Boyfriend"? Leave your comment below!

Michael Bay is a director who knows what he likes, and he has no fears about sharing those interests with you. I'm here! I'm here! And I saw my first gang-banger get arrested yesterday so I feel like a total Angeleno.

I'm getting ready to go to the gym (again, like a total Angeleno!) so I will update later about my run-ins with Alexander Skarsgard, Pauly Shore, and Jeremy or Jason London (I'm not sure which one it was and seeing if I could force him to do drugs to find out seemed unfair. Besides, as it turned out, he was telling the truth?)

Anyhoo, I've got a lot to tell you about gardening! (Did you know if you get dirt wet it turns into mud? Yuck.)

And bumpers! (They don't bump off anything... they go, "Scraaaaaaaatch!")

And there's probably more but, again, I have to go because I have to get to the gym!

This week, Lamar Odom's estranged father stepped into the media circus currently surrounding the NBA star. Weighing in on Odom's continuing battle with drug addiction, Joe Odom pointed a finger at his son's wife, Khloe Kardashian, and her family. "They brought him down," the elder Odom told Radar Online. "He would be better off without them. Let him go and get his life together. I think the best thing for him would be to have a clean break, divorce Khloe and as a single man try and get his life back together.”

Ke$ha Previews 'Supernatural' New Track

Producer Dr. Luke unveils a snippet of a song from her upcoming album.
By James Montgomery

It's not exactly "balls-out irreverent rock and roll" — quite the opposite, in fact — but with one 40-second snippet, Ke$ha is serving notice that her new album is most definitely going to be a departure.

On Wednesday (June 6), frequent Ke$h collaborator Dr. Luke gave fans a sneak peek at a song from her long-in-the-works new album, an all-too-brief preview that features her cooing about a lover's prowess — "When you take my body to the stars/ I believe it/ Boy, this love is supernatural/ Can you feel it?" over a bed of shimmering synths and knotty bass that gradually builds to a twisting, rapidly contrasting electronic break.

It's the kind of high-gloss production she largely avoided on her breakthrough Animal album, and while we certainly can't figure out how the track fits in with her other collaborations (she's reportedly worked with everyone from Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne to Iggy Pop on the still-untitled new album), the new track certainly showcases her maturation. And thanks to Ke$h herself, at least we know what the new track is about: having sex with ghosts.

Yes, just hours after Dr. Luke leaked the snippet, Ke$ha took to her Twitter account to mock-chastise her producer, writing: "You leaked my song about me having sexy time with a ghost, @thedoctorluke," she wrote. "Now everyone knows I get it on with ghosts!"

Somehow, that doesn't surprise us. There's still no firm release date for Ke$ha's new album, which she began working on in February. But, from the sound of one snippet, at least, it sounds like things are progressing quickly. And, apparently, ghostly.

What do you think of the sneak peek? Let us know in the comments!
